I’d like to challenge and hopefully inspire you to be a creator in your work.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Genesis%201:1&version=ESV

Last week we talked about how God seemed to have something special in mind with the number 22, assigning the numbers of letters in His language, the # of chromosomes in our DNA and the number of His works of creation.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1:26-28 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Genesis%201:26-28&version=ESV

When we are acting like our Father, from whom we were made, we are creators.

Creating is kind of like giving, because the that which we create can be a blessing to others.

Acts 20:35 "...And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”"

We live in a society run by Satan, where we are encouraged to take and not to give, to consume and not to produce.

In the workplace, this issue is front and center.  We have a choice each day we work whether we will be part of the problem or part of the solution, whether we will give more than we get.

Are we focused more on being mentored or mentoring others, on being helped or helping others?

Are we more upset when others don't show up at meetings we schedule than we are with ourselves when we're late for someone else's meeting?

When it comes to discipleship and spiritual growth, are we primarily focused on being fed by other teachers, or feeding others, i.e. sharing with others the truths you've already learned.

Luke 6:38 says "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Matt 6:33 says "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

God's economy says give first and trust you'll receive later.  His greatest commandments are to love God and love others.  Satan's goal is to look out for #1 and if we live in our flesh and not in the spirit, we will constantly be looking out for ourselves and our best interests, whether it's in the workplace, in our marriage, or any other part of our lives.

So coming back to the issue of creation, I challenge you and myself to look for ways to be a giver, but more specifically to be a creator.  Find ways in your work to create something new rather than just benefitting from the creation of others.  What does that mean exactly?  That truly will vary depending on your type of work, but I suggest you start thinking about the people with whom you work and who are affected by your work.  What can you do, through your work, to bless others?

In my life outside of my full-time job, I'm looking for ways to create through writing, since I've always liked to write.  When I was young I wanted to be a journalist.  I had a blog before I started producing this podcast. I wrote the book "Jesus is at Work" but have wanted for a while to write some type of fiction.  I recently found out that Amazon Kindle launched a service last year called Kindle Vella, where authors can write episodes of a longer story as a way of providing content a little at a time. I've been looking for ways for my 13 year old daughter to use her creative skills instead of just consuming playing video games and shared this with her and she's pretty excited about writing stories on this service and so that's got me excited as well.

So I guess I would ask you to think outside of the box of your 9-5 job about how you can create something this week.  Maybe you write a little poem for your wife.  Maybe there's a creative project you've put off for a long time that you just need to take that first step.

Pray about it and then take action.

Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.
