Christian Men at Work Podcast

Nov 30, 2020

What You'll Hear:

My mother died when I was a teenager, and I ran from God

I went to college at Texas A&M and did things I shouldn’t have done, and in my senior year met with future wife Angel

We separated, I heard a radio show about God’s grace and love called Rejection Junkies

I went to a Christian Counselor that began a journey of discovery, leading to getting back together with my wife. It’s been a great adventure with God since then

We put unrealistic expectations on those we love

Sometimes the storms we go through make sense, but then God shows how He uses everything in our life for good

First job other than mowing lawns was as an apprentice to a butcher in a meat market, learned attention to detail, at Handy Food Store in Texas

At college, I started majoring in Nuclear Engineering and knew I was in trouble, and switched to Agribusiness and thrived in it

Coming out of college worked for Fidelity Investments for 6 months, then took a sales position with General Mills for 4 years. The many careers moves put a big strain on our marriage.

I took a job with Charles Schwab and my heart came alive with what God had created me to do. Later moved to just outside of New Orleans and dealt with Hurricane Katrina.

Through a client family, God led me to do something different. They had a great estate and tax plan, but a bad family plan.

Most families have the capacity to begin giving 3-5 times more than they are without changing their lifestyle

When we get aligned with God, it’s not Return on Investment, it’s Return on Intention

Break 1 – 19:50

6 Timeless Principles of Transformation

  1. Your Top Asset is Your Family – everything you do should be tied back to the transformation you want to see in your family relationally. Everyone wants to leave a legacy, make an impact on your kids and be remembered. See Psalm 78:5-7. Your legacy can last for 5 generations. Think about your family above everything else. If a husband and wife can’t be in unity, it’s hard for everyone else to be in unity. If there’s not family harmony, then what’s the rest of it for anyway?
  2. Your Top Investment is Your Business – what you do in your career or business is your top investment in life. Our top investment in ourselves may be in the 9-5 of our every single day. People are going to church less and less, but they’re going to work every day. You may be the only missionary they’ll see.
  3. Your Control of Money is Finite – In the book “The Infinite Game”, it says that we can look at life as us being here to pass on a baton. In scriptures, we see that we are here for a blink of an eye. We’re to raise up leaders who will transform the world. Statistics that 90% of wealth will be gone after 3 generations, because God designed it that way. You see that in King Solomon. God is a god of relationship. We’ll most likely only have a relationship with our children and our children’s children. – Break 2 - 3724
  4. All of Transformation is Going to Happen in Some Form of Relationship – Ron Blue said that money will never turn into wisdom, but wisdom may turn into money. It’s so easy to be self-centered. With social media, we’re more connected and less connected at the same time. You can’t transform anything without being intentional.
  5. Generosity Defeats Scarcity – we live in a world that tells us that what we need is more. R.G. Laturno gave away 90% of his income and stock and he kept getting wealthier. He said “I shovel it out and God shovels it back, but God has a bigger shovel”. When we embrace generosity, then the philosophy of scarcity goes away. It’s the only place in scripture where God challenges us to test Him (Malachi 3:10). Think of closed fist vs open hand analogy.
  6. Today Echoes Through Eternity – See 2 Cor 5:10. This is not about salvation, but about what we do with what we’ve been given. Every one of us will answer for this. Every day you’ll face
