What You'll Hear:
S
First, update on my last Selah episode briefly, then talk about
Being a Man
Hebrews 12:2 - "looking unto Jesus,
the author and finisher of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the
throne of God."
Proverbs 24:17 "For a righteous man may
fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked
shall fall by calamity."
From Toby Mac "Get Back Up", "We lose our way,
We get back up again
It's never too late to get back up again,
One day you're gonna shine again,
You may be knocked down,
But not out forever"
Several events contributing to me choosing the theme of "Being
a Man" for this week
Last week Parashah 1 - Genesis 1-6 - creation week, talking
the creation of man and woman
Interview with Terrance McLane last week - Delivered from
Homosexuality, rasied issues of gender
2nd debate - Joe Biden asked by a woman who had 8 yr old
transgender daughter, his affirming response
Then got an email from AFA with a link to a free movie,
documentary called "In His Image". I watched it with my wife
and youngest daughter, then I posted it on Facebook and forwarded
it to my pastor who suggested they show it to the youth in our
church. I strongly encourage you to watch it and if you agree with
me on its value then to share it with others.
Highlights from the movie on the topic of manhood
men were made made as men and women as women to bear witness
to the story of God
Rom 1:20 "For since the creation of the world His
invisible attributes are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made"
The pinnacle of God's creation is male and female humans
Human beings uniquely reflect God the Creator in the way we
were made, including creativity, ability for higher order thinking,
higher order emotions
Gen 1:26 "Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image,
according to Our likeness" then went on to create man as male and
female, illustrates the fellowship of the Trinity 3 person nature
of God created man and woman in fellowship
Genesis 2 is like a slow motion description of God's creation
of man and woman, I encourage you to read this Chapter
1. First
Man was created first
first born son in a Hebrew family had accountability and
responsibility, you may have seen this play out in your family that
the oldest son was responsible to look after their siblings, in
same way Adam carried the responsibility for bringing whole human
family into sin even though Eve actually first ate the fruit in
disobedience, and Christ, the 2nd Adam, carried the responsibility
for bring the whole human family back into fellowship with
God'
2. Work -
Gen 2:15 "Then the Lord God took
[a]the man
and put him in the garden of Eden to
[b]tend and
keep it."
He had responsibility to provide and protect, Men are hard
wired to be providers and protectors
God wants men to be the heros for their families, to man up,
to take initiative
The command in scripture is not for women to sit down, but for
men to stand up
God gave instructions for the garden to man and expected
the man to pass along those instructions to woman
Man is called to be a gardener not just a grass cutter -
Eph 5 spiritually cultivating your wife, spending time in
studying scripture and praying together
Hebrew word for work in Gen 2:15, "Abad" means to work for
someone.
New T command for wife to submit to her husband, the
greek word Huppotaso which is transliterated to submit from a
compound of 2 words, sub and mittere, with mittere meaning vision,
so a wife is to submit to the vision of her husband, which means
it's also commanding us to have a vision for who he is personally
and what God has called him to for creating a vision for his
family
Woman is called to be helper, in NT Holy Spirit is called the
Helper, so we as men should honor the vaulted position our wives
are given to be a helper
