Christian Men at Work Podcast

Apr 25, 2018

What You'll Hear:
  • Jeff was born again on at age 13 at an old timey spiritual revival and was close to God
  • "A lot of times it's just easier to put God on the shelf somewhere and try to do things on my own"
  • Jeff got away from God as a young man and made some mistakes
  • 10-12 years ago Jeff was re-anointed with the Holy Spirit and started growing close to Christ again
  • Small things and decisions in our lives can totally redirect us
  • Jeff started working as an engineer for a natural gas company working off-shore in Houston, TX
  • Jeff then worked for a rendering company in NC and found it was one of the stinkiest jobs you could ever be in
  • Jeff went through a divorce and was traveling too much away from his two sons and so he started his own dry-cleaning business
  • With a hired manager in his business, Jeff started doing general contract work on the side.  He now does contractor work full-time
  • "The best thing is I'm doing what I love to do...I'm able to develop a lot of relationships..I'm doing what God wants me to do....it gives me a lot of flexibility"
  • Jeff started a camp for high school age boys in 2011 after being a leader for his 2 boys in Boy Scouts
  • Jeff brainstormed with his pastors and came up with the X60 Camp to help young man to experience God's creation and learn how to be a man in today's world
  • 60 miles = 23 miles hiking on the Appalachian Trail, 17 miles biking on the Virginia Creeper, 20 miles of canoeing on the New River.
  • It's a week long camp.
  • They talk about false vs. real masculinity, relationships, finding and living out God's purpose for our lives and serving others.
  • Many men have the wrong idea of what work should be.  They dread work and think of it as agitation.  We should think of it as a labor, task or duty that is one's means of livelihood.
  • We need to do something that we enjoy and or at least don't dread
  • If you want to be happy and enjoy the work you do, you either need to do something else or look at the good things about your work
  • God doesn't want us to be miserable in the work that we do.  He wants us to excel and do our best.
  • Have the right attitude and each day ask for God's guidance
  • The best way to share your Gospel at work is to be an example.  Have integrity and consistency.
  • Integrity is doing the right thing when no-one is looking.  in the workplace it's real easy to lose your integrity.
  • If you truly want to live out your faith at work and be a witness, you basically have to have that constant integrity
  • Jeff's favorite scripture verse is Psalm 24:4-5 "

    Show me Your ways, O Lord;
    Teach me Your paths.
    Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
    For You are the God of my salvation;
    On You I wait all the day.

    Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths" and Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"

  • Jeff encourages others to go on Mission Trips
  • Jeff encourages men to develop true friendships with other men.  He started developing these friendships a few years ago.
  • A typical man has one true friend...it takes a lot of effort to have true friends but it's worth it
  • Check out the Timothy initiative and do it with other men.  It's an 8 week course.
