Christian Men at Work Podcast

Q&A - Spirit Round*
What is the Greatest Misunderstanding Men Have About Their Work?
I think a lot of men are scared to profess and live their faith.  They don't want to offend anybody.

Jesus Christ must be the center of everything we do as men in our personal and professional lives.  We need to be the example of living out the Word.

Unfortunately men are timid about being on fire for Jesus.

Men's work should be focused on investing in the eternal, putting foundations up that are going to be there long after they're gone.

Our nation's founders were blazing trails.  We need to be trailblazers, pushing away the darkness of the culture, and laying down a pathway of light for others to follow.

On TV and radio they're always talking about investments.  The only source of security is Jesus Christ.  I don't care how much money you have socked away.  In the end the only thing that will matter is your relationship with Jesus Christ.

As a man, if you're not working on a daily basis to connect others to Jesus Christ, the work that you're doing is just temporal and kind of useless in many ways.  I consider myself an eternal portfolio manager.  The Bible says to store up your treasure where it won't rot.
Tell Us About a Difficult Person You've Worked With
I've worked with every type of person and background you can imagine.  God has blessed me with the ability to connect with people at many levels.

The people I have the most difficulty with are people filled with anger.  I would tell kids in the toughest schools that anger is one letter away from danger.  It does not allow them to think clearly, to calm down.

It's the toughest emotion to deal with.   I would try to redirect them, refocus them, reach out to them.  Let them understand that I'm here to help you.

The Bible says the eyes are the gateway to the souls.  If I can get their eyes to focus I can start a conversation with them and move in a different action.

Anger is an instrument of darkness and the way to deal with that is to shine the light of Jesus on it.
Talk About Excelling in Your Job
Colossians 3:23 sums up how we as Christians should approach work.

Everything should be done with the highest degree of excellence.  Our work should reflect our service to our Savior.  We shouldn't even have to say we're Christians.

Today we have so many modes of interaction.  In all those modes of communication, we should first and foremost be a reflection of Christ.

Excellence, integrity, honesty are critical factors in your professional work as well as at home.  Your children should see how you work with others, for example.

In the book of James, it says "faith without works is dead". If we claim to have faith but we're not showing it, it's dead.  It should be alive and vibrant.
Talk About Integrity and How You Were Tested as a Police Officer
As a police officer you're given the responsibility of taking a life.  I thought of being a police officer as a ministry.

If you were not rooted in the truth and honesty, it would catch up with you. We've read stories where public servants have failed in this area.

The vast majority of police officers are of the highest integrity.  It's unfortunate that a couple bad apples can reflect badly on the whole.  This is true for other occupations as well.

All of us as men and leaders have a responsibility to live a life of integrity.
Give Us a Tip to Share the Gospel at Work
The most impactful way to share the Gospel is to live it.  You better know the Gospel.

As a police officer, if I'm to enforce the laws I better know the laws.

There's a good saying "if your Bible is in good shape you probably aren't".  If your Bible is not worn you're probably not delving into it.
